Four.

James was 4 today.   A happy day spent playing with his new balance bike, and then a long involved game with his farm animals, bricks and cars.  He wanted to make his own cake - carrot, orange and eggshell!  It was just a bit too crunchy for me, but since there was a fair bit of butter and 4 eggs in it I managed to struggle through a fairly large piece.
Birthday tea in the kitchen, which is a bit chaotic at the moment, and then through to our newly furnished front room, to play by the fireside.
As he snuggled down in bed for the night, he thought that next year he might like a volcano of his very own, since he would be five by then.  Well - who wouldn't?

  4. Happy birthday James. Glad the cake could actually be eaten (shells and all); our boys (now aged almost 48 and almost 50) once made us 'scrambled egg' - on the kitchen floor!

  5. You really do live in a heavenly spot! Happy Birthday to your little man, he looks very angelic in his picture! I love carrot cake, but not sue I could force down the eggshells, lol! I bet your lovely hens lay the best of eggs though!

  6. Lol Ann - scrambled eggs on the floor - yum. Actually the cake wasn't really edible and it took a lot of filleting to get any shell-free crumbs, but he was so pleased with it. No-one asked for seconds, so it may be the ultimate dieter's cake.
Ren - I just can't think where I would put a real volcano, but i am sure he will find a spot for it. xx

  13. Happy Birthday James. Wow, 4 already, what a big boy!

Volcanos? Hmmmm. Would a trip to the giants causeway suffice (isn't it an ancient lava flow?)

  14. Belated happy birthday wishes to James.
A volcano sounds a great idea - Cain isn't going to be five because he doesn't want to get old and die!
    Hope James loved his cake.

  19. Hello, not too sure you will read this comment. James' birthday popped up at the bottom of your latest blog so I had to have a peek.

James's is 5 days older than Joe. :) Joe has a friend, Oliver who shares his exact birthday with James and Giles is exactly 3 years younger. There you go, some birthday facts for you.xx
